Together for a Strong, Safe, and Affordable Ward 9
Gar Gar’s campaign is rooted in lived experience, proven service, and a relentless drive to bring community voices into the heart of decision-making. His priorities reflect what residents have asked for time and time again — safer neighborhoods, more affordability, honest leadership, and a city that works for everyone.
Affordability That Works
Calgarians are struggling — and the cost of living can’t keep rising unchecked. Gar will:
Be a strong advocate for fair taxes and spending that prioritizes results, not politics.
Fight for more attainable housing across Ward 9 — not just high-end infills.
Offer more accessible recreation, like a $2 summer pool program in more communities.
Cut red tape for small business owners and support local entrepreneurs in Ogden, Forest Lawn, and across the ward.
We must plan with purpose and build with equity. Gar will:
Roll out a Ward 9 Infrastructure Renewal Plan to repair roads, sidewalks, and drainage.
Improve stormwater systems and flood protections in Dover, Ogden, and vulnerable zones.
Ensure parks and public spaces are inclusive, accessible, and year-round friendly.
Support growth in new areas like Belvedere without abandoning existing neighborhoods.
Smart Infrastructure
Supporting Families, Youth & Seniors
Gar knows a thriving community is one where no one is left behind. As a father of five and community mentor, he will:
Invest in youth programs, after-school initiatives, and summer job training.
Prioritize mental health supports and services for teens and families.
Expand age-friendly infrastructure and aging-in-place support for seniors.
Recognize the role of caregivers, volunteers, and front-line community champions.
Ward 9 residents deserve clean streets, functional roads, and a city that keeps families safe. Gar will:
Improve lighting, alley safety, and visibility across Ward 9.
Tackle C-Train station concerns (Ogden, Inglewood, Forest Lawn) with stronger transit safety measures.
Crack down on knife crime, illegal bear spray sales, and after-hours trouble spots.
Strengthen snow removal, waste pickup, and sidewalk repair—because the basics matter.
Launch a Ward 9 Safety Task Force: police, fire, bylaw, health, and residents working together.

Real Community Engagement
Gar isn’t new to community leadership — and he knows that engagement means listening, not just informing. He will:
Elevate Community Associations as core decision-making partners.
Host regular public forums, “Coffee with Your Councillor,” and open office days in every neighborhood.
Ensure complete transparency in Ward 9 files — from development permits to safety plans.
Build tools for residents to shape City Hall decisions before they’re made.
Gar believes in smart growth that reflects the values and voices of the people who live here. He will:
Oppose one-size-fits-all blanket rezoning and push for community-informed development.
Protect the character and integrity of established neighborhoods like Inglewood, Ogden, and Ramsay.
Crack down on slum landlords and absentee property owners.
Support stronger renter protections and safe housing standards citywide.
